The national chvrches i need my girl
It's cruel and he knows it. There are few bands who inspire devotion like the National though, so no amount of adverse weather conditions will take the Glasgow audience out of the moment when they're in full flight. It takes a while for things to get this comfortable, though. On the first of two nights in Glasgow, the band lean heavily on eighth album, I Am Easy to Find , released back in May. It's a rewarding listen on record; guided by a cast of female vocalists it has a conversational tone, exploring relationship dynamics.SEE VIDEO BY TOPIC: The National ft. Here are some highlights from the first day of ACL! A gifted lyrical queen, Sasha Sloan is one of the most talented songwriters in the industry right now. The lead vocalist Landon Jacobs went as far as going into the crowd to perform. After having a spiritual experience at their headlining set at Sasquatch Festival a few months ago, The National was definitely one of my most anticipated acts at ACL, and they did not disappoint. Being able to see a living legend was something that I feel grateful to have experienced.
Paul sang classics as well as new songs and the production level of his set was unparalleled. The venue was edgy and the crowd was great. Having only seen Illenium at festivals, it was unique seeing him in a smaller, more intimate venue. Trivecta opened for Illenium and was great as well. Overall, the first day of ACL was fantastic. I enjoyed the variety of food trucks especially the plethora of vegan options, it was Heaven , the unique totems and flags, and of course the wonderful acts I saw.

I have to open with the fact that I love Fleet Foxes—like, a lot. Sometimes a band just resonates with you on a deeper level. Go listen to all their stuff!

But it goes beyond just having variety in her record collection. I had been listening to Fiona Apple and somebody had suggested to me, "If you this kind of thing, then you should definitely check out Tori Amos because she's like the queen of this genre. I remembered the image and hearing that she has a really unique aesthetic. I knew that but I hadn't heard any of the music. I think the first one I got was Under The Pink. But Little Earthquakes is definitely my favorite one. Lyrically, it's so artful. I love that she can one moment be living in a weird fantasy fairy tale and the next minute she can say something that's so straight down the line honest. I've seen her live maybe four times and she's insane live as well. That's what I love — when people take a genre or take an instrument and just totally turn it on its head.

O n Saturday, the National will become the first band to headline Latitude twice. Nipping at their heels are Chvrches , who have leapt up to second on the bill after first appearing in a tiny tent in , three months before releasing their debut album. Not that there is any competition afoot. Do you enjoy festivals?

Two years later, their follow-up, Every Open Eye, was the best album of And this new album marks their third straight 4th-or-better release, a phenomenal run by any standards. The trio, featuring Lauren Mayberry on lead vocals, and Martin Doherty and Iain Cook on synths and additional vocals, is defining an entire genre of sound for a generation.
It returned to its former glory and old-world charm after a restoration in , making it the perfect venue for a band like The National. As the crowds filed into the bandstand, This is The Kit performed a short set. When it was finally time for The National to take to the stage, the heavens truly opened. Considering the often sombre mood of their music, it could have been considered an appropriate accompaniment. That is not to say the crowd or the band were in a dour mood, as the excitement built throughout the night with lead singer Matt Beringer frequently diving into the sea of plastic cagoules that was the audience. In a touching tribute, the band and Mayberry performed a cover of Walking Backwards by Frightened Rabbit, whose founder and main songwriter Scott Hutchison passed away last year.
The National Bring Out Lauren Mayberry For ‘I Need My Girl’
Just a few years ago you were more likely to find condoms and needles in the dilapidated Kelvingrove bandstand than indie rock stars. Musically there can be few bands better suited to a downpour than The National; their verbose, often melancholic songs offset by the pitter-patter of raindrops on rain macs. Easing up through the gears with a series of tracks from their new record, the first big cheers come for a fantastic Hey Rosey with Berninger lending a special heft to its opening line: 'I'm your angel when it rains, dear' as the droplets ping down. Backlash to The National has typically tended to focus on a certain self-seriousness that can translate into dreariness, but one thing that is undeniable is that, live, Berninger really feels these lyrics. A song as obtuse as Bloodbuzz Ohio is lent fresh fire by a frontman who refuses to succumb to cartoonish rockstardom, even as he unpicks the masculine foibles of which he admits his complicity. As the sun sets, the gig gets better and better. Already heading for the two-hour mark, an uproarious encore of Light Years sees Berninger disappear into the crowd once more while Mr. November is a welcome flashback to their more heavily post-punk-influenced early records, despite the frontman twice trying and failing to mount his monitor to sing the chorus.
