A Century of Girl Scout Uniforms
Another topic of conversation that frequently comes up in the beginning of the scouting year is what kind of uniform a Girl Scout leader should wear, if she wears one at all. To be honest, I have never worn anything that resembles a uniform. When my girls were younger, I typically came straight from work, with a short pit stop to grab a cup of coffee from home. I did not dress sloppy, but nothing nice, like silk pants or a blouse, like I would wear to my elementary school teacher job back in the day. Also, cost is another factor in deciding whether or not you want to purchase anything official from the Girl Scout Shop. The items for adult leaders are quite expensive, at least from my vantage point. During most of my years as a leader, money was incredibly tight for my family. Spending fifty dollars on a navy cardigan was not happening, especially when I could purchase something similar for much less money.
Girl Scout volunteers and adult members can proudly wear adult uniforms to troop, service unit, and council events to set an example for the other Girl Scouts in their lives. Women complete their uniform by wearing an official Girl Scout scarf, and men wear a Girl Scout tie. If an adult has earned more than one special recognition Appreciation Pin, Thanks Badge, or Honor Pin , the last one received is generally the one worn. Adult Girl Scout members wear position pins to indicate their present position within the organization. Find these pins and those for national-level positions on our online shop.
Girl Scouts have been making a difference in their communities and the world beyond for over years. In , Juliette Gordon Low set out to create an organization that would give girls the opportunity to try new things they had never been exposed to before, such as camping, hiking, and forestry. While the mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place remains, the look of Girl Scouts has changed quite a bit with time!

Adult Uniform Guide
Last Updated on October 3, Uniforms have been a part of Girl Scouts from the very beginning, and adult uniforms are no different. Adults have worn a wide variety of uniforms that ranged from floor length skirts to the first pant suits in the seventies. Adult uniforms are navy, and consist of a few key elements to be worn for various occasions. We have official blue button-down shirts, polos, and cardigans with the Girl Scout embroidered logo, which act as the base for the scarf, patches, and pins.
